Today society seems to be about connections and communication. The future, society looks towards, seems to be furthering those connections and communication. The best example would be cell phones. Ten years ago, cell phones were created to help make communication easier, but today it seems cell phones are no longer used for just communicating. I look at my current phone and there are so many options such as voice recorder, instant messaging, stereo widening, and more. To be honest, I’m pretty sure I still don’t know how to use all the options on my phone like the translator… I find myself actually liking my older phone more, which only had the option of a phonebook and camera. Also, phones today aim for looks, trying to be slimmer and smaller. However, by trying to make phones more appealing, their durability seems to be sacrificed. My first phone lasted me three years, while now it seems I need to replace my new phone after less than a year. With the help of advancement in technology, phones are getting stuffed with more and more options. It is very rare to find someone with a phone that was made only to make calls and send messages. Because technology has perfected portable communication, what will the future of cell phones hold?
Having achieved the ability to communicate from almost anywhere, the advancement in cell phones no longer can be found in the area of communication. The cell phone industry has focused its attention more towards options, entertainment, and a chance to further the use of technology even if it is unnecessary. This article is on the invention of a cell phone that can be controlled by the simple movement of the eye. The ability to control different options such as volume with the simple motion of your eyes seems extremely impressive a sign of advancement in technology; however, like many options on my phone, is this necessary? Even though it may be convenient to not need to use your hands, even the article addressed “how many different eye movements are you going to have to remember to use your phone?” or what if you had the tendency to roll your eyes, would this affect the phone options? The phone works by using sensors and chips to read the electrical current produced by your brain. It might become popular because this phone explores an option that no phone has gained before if the inventors are able to make the phone’s body more appealing since it has the brick shape of a phone from ten years ago with wires protruding from it. Today phones seem to target consumers by a simplistic, yet colorful outside shell while offering many options available on the phone. If the creators can successfully make the phone more outwardly appealing, the phone may have a chance on the market since the article mentions how the phone will have other options such as a “music player.” The creativity and technology behind this phone is new and innovative, but it seems like this option will only be a gimmick to show off to your friends.

Because of the cell phone's ubiquitous role in our lives, it seems logical for engineers to look for ways to improve its functionality. For example, cell phones in the early 1990s were bulky and unwieldy. For men, who chiefly rely on their pockets to carry items, the small, slim cell phone is a godsend.
Additionally, the eye-motion interface mentioned in the article can be implemented in devices other than phones. It would be pretty cool if laptops had similar features. For example, the size of a laptop could be reduced if the physical keyboard was replaced with an on-screen interface controlled by eye movements. Many devices can benefit from the perfection of eye-motion technology.
This is an interesting article. I never thought they would come up with a phone that you could control without even having to touch it. How much lazier could society get? Is this really nessecary?
When we first came out with cell phones we were surprised that we were not immobilized by being attatched to the wall by a wire, but now we don't even have to touch the phone. Technology is so amazing, but could this lead to our society getting lazier and lazier? Pretty soon we won't even have to carry our phones, they will just be wired to us internally. Wouldnt that be weird?
It sounds a little absurd to me that a phone can be controlled by ones movement of eyes.. but then again, im sure people in history would have never thought cell phones would reach the capabilities that they do today and its amazing to know that before the 90's they didnt even exist! i am still surprised at some of the functions of the phones that are coming out these days and it would have been interesting to see some of them posted here (or even the older models to see how much its progressed) over all, i like the fact that this post talked about what these devices might be able to do in the future.
I believe the more advance cell phone becomes, the greater the risk we will have of privacy. Cell phone these days are able to surf the web, check our e-mails, and pay our bills. Of course these functions make it more convenient for us; it is very risky to carry all those personal information with you. Laptops already run the risk of people getting it stolen for identity theft. A small and thinner cell phone makes it easier for thieves to steal it without us noticing it; we are practically packing the bags for them. They were able to get his personal cell phone account. Luckily Obama had only a voice flip phone without the fancy PDA functions. Imagine if had a blackberry or an iphone, a lot of his personal information would be in the public. So I urge everyone to protect yourselves from identity theft and put a password or some sort of security on your phones/laptops.
It is funny how you mention the extreme advancements made in cellular technology because I've been noticing all these new cell phones around me that are so impressive and can practically do everything. Modern technology is fascinating in the way it continues to evolve into bigger, better, most importantly more convenient things. Cell phones were initially made to simply make and receive calls and that was almost 30 years ago. Flip phones were considered the crazy fad and newest advancement in technology, but now we are able to do pretty much everything with the conveniences of their mobile devices. Society has become completely infatuated with the newest phones. It has become the new trend to buy the best and most advanced phone that is out in the market. With all of the impressive features that come with a new phone each year, people are willing to spend a lot of money to obtain them. It seems there is no end to technology, and there definitely is no end to developing the best phone out there.
